Frequently Asked Questions

Many of our clients are new to touring and may have plenty of questions about how our trips work. We’ve answered many of these common questions below, but if you have any specific inquiries, whether before or after booking, feel free to contact us here.

We’ll be happy to help with any additional information!

Yes, your guide will be with you for the entire trip and will be reachable by phone at any time during the day if you have any questions or run into any issues.

Definitely not. We understand how much effort goes into planning for a big trip, from booking time off to preparing everything, and we've heard the horror stories of last-minute cancellations. Rest assured, we have never and will never cancel a tour due to a lack of bookings.

With many years of experience leading tours in nearly 40 countries, we take pride in offering exciting, culturally immersive, and truly unique riding holidays. Our passion is to provide the most comprehensive tours, focusing on the best roads and sights at a comfortable pace. We don’t rush from place to place just to check off views; instead, we prioritize service and ensuring that every rider has the adventure of a lifetime. Our experienced tour guide is always available to assist, and unlike some companies, we stay in top-quality accommodations. We also give you the freedom to explore the local dining scene rather than enforcing group meals every night. For us, it’s not just about reaching the destination—it's about the journey and the experiences you gather along the way.

Absolutely! We’re thrilled to see more women embracing motorcycling and touring, and our groups often include a mix of both riders and pillion passengers. We pride ourselves on not being a "boys on tour" type of company. Our tours attract people of all ages and genders, and we ensure that everyone feels welcome, comfortable, and part of the group.

The minimum age for both riders and pillion passengers is 18, but there’s no upper age limit. As long as you’re still riding, we’re more than happy to have you on our tours!

All bike types are welcome! Ideally, your bike should be 500cc or over and capable of covering at least 125 miles per tank to keep up with the distances involved. However, we’ve had plenty of riders on 300cc bikes and even a few on 125s. The key is that your bike should be mechanically sound and able to sustain speed and power throughout the tour. As for luggage, there’s no need for expensive hard panniers—soft luggage, throw-over panniers, and tank bags work perfectly well and are much more affordable.

Yes, your booking is fully financially protected. At Wild Roads, we prioritise our clients' peace of mind and go above and beyond to safeguard your money. We comply fully with the 2018 Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations to ensure your booking is secure. For more details, you can visit our financial protection page.

To book a tour, simply fill out the booking form on our website, and we’ll get back to you with payment details for your deposit. Once the deposit is received, we’ll send you a booking confirmation email with the remaining balance and its due date. After you’ve paid the final balance (4 to 6 weeks before the tour), we’ll send you all the necessary documentation, giving you plenty of time to prepare for your trip.

The required insurance depends on the tour location and whether you're riding your own bike. If you're using your own motorcycle, you’ll need valid insurance for both yourself and any pillion rider, as well as travel and medical insurance that includes repatriation for you and your bike, along with breakdown cover. If you're renting a bike, you only need travel and medical insurance, as all rental bikes come with full insurance included. These details are covered more thoroughly in the tour packs.

Yes, most of our tours include rest days in beautiful locations. These days are yours to spend however you like. We typically offer one or more organized ride-outs to local attractions, or you can choose to relax in the town and enjoy the hotel's facilities at your leisure.

Daily mileages vary depending on the tour and the type of roads. On more technical roads, we may cover less than 100 miles, while on cruising days, we might exceed 250 miles. However, every day is designed to be manageable. We recommend starting between 9am and 10am, and you’ll typically arrive at the hotel by 5pm or 6pm. Regular rest and refuel stops are built in, and we always schedule a nice lunch stop. Detailed daily mileages and other route information will be provided in your route pack before the tour begins.

Our tours attract a wide range of ages, from riders in their early 30s to those in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. We welcome all types of bikes, as our tours are entirely on tarmac. Whether you ride a tourer, sports tourer, cruiser, adventure bike, or sports bike, you're more than welcome to join!

Each tour usually has between 10 and 15 bikes. We prefer smaller groups, as they tend to create stronger connections among riders and lead to more enjoyable experiences, especially during the evenings!

Your guide will be with you throughout the tour, assisting with hotel check-ins, giving evening or morning briefings, and ensuring everyone is ready for each day’s ride. Unlike many other companies, we encourage riders to go at their own pace. Instead of using a marker or drop-off system with the guide leading, you’ll have all the stops (coffee, lunch, hotel) pre-loaded into your satnav. Riders tend to naturally form small groups of three or four, riding together and meeting up at rest stops. The guide usually rides toward the back to assist if needed.

This approach allows for a more relaxed experience, where you can stop to take photos, explore alternative routes, and enjoy the scenery, rather than racing to reach the destination each night. It provides more freedom and enhances the overall adventure.

Absolutely not! Our tours are not a race. We understand that riders have varying abilities, which is one of the great aspects of group tours. Each tour is structured so you can ride at your own pace and take in the scenery. The daily mileages are manageable, and it’s common for the group to naturally split into smaller groups throughout the day. Everyone has a detailed route pack with suggested roads, GPS points, and guidance from the tour leader, ensuring you can enjoy the ride without any pressure.

Yes, our tours are designed for riders of all abilities. With manageable mileages, they give you ample time to enjoy the ride without feeling rushed. Each rider receives a tour pack, allowing you to travel at your own pace. We’ve had everyone from newly licensed riders to those with over forty years of experience, and all have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We provide support vehicles on tours outside of mainland Europe to assist with breakdowns or incidents. However, for mainland Europe tours, there is little need for support vehicles due to the efficiency of the breakdown recovery network. Our guides are highly experienced in getting riders back on the road quickly if any issues arise.
