Wild Roads Destinations — The Balkans

Motorcycle Tours The Balkans

Mostar's rebuilt bridge, Kotor's fjord-like bay, the Accursed Mountains of Albania and the ancient shore of Lake Ohrid — motorcycle tours in the Balkans through Europe's last great riding secret.

22 Days · 12 Countries ≈ 4,000 Miles Fully Guided From £5,800pp

Our Balkans motorcycle tours take you through the most exciting riding region in Europe — twelve countries in twenty-two days, from the vineyards of Champagne and the Julian Alps to the limestone bay country of Montenegro, the wild mountains of Albania and the Ottoman old towns of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

This is what the Alps must have felt like decades ago: quiet roads, raw mountain scenery, and locals who still look genuinely pleased to see a bike. A motorcycle tour of the Balkans blends high alpine passes, fjord-like coastlines, crystal rivers and UNESCO old towns — all stitched together by roads that are an absolute joy to ride.

Why A Motorcycle Trip To The Balkans?

01

The Roads

The Balkans are stuffed with the kind of roads riders dream about and rarely find: the serpentine descent into Kotor with the bay glittering a thousand feet below, the Llogara Pass switchbacking over the Albanian Riviera, the high forest roads of Bosnia and the razorback limestone climbs of Montenegro. Traffic is light, surfaces are good, and every border crossing swaps one brilliant road for another.

02

The Stays

This is a region that still does hospitality properly. We handpick boutique hotels in the old towns, lakeside lodges in the mountains, and family-run guesthouses where the food just keeps coming. Rooms cost what they should, staff are genuinely warm, and every stay feels like somewhere you'd never have found on your own.

03

The Food & Drink

Ćevapi grilled over charcoal, fresh Adriatic fish, Bosnian coffee served with lokum, Montenegrin wine from vineyards older than most countries — and everywhere, the mountain tradition of long, generous meals. The Balkans eat well, pour honestly, and treat dinner as the day's main event after the riding's done.

04

The History & Scenery

Nowhere in Europe packs in more per mile: Mostar's rebuilt bridge, Sarajevo's bazaar streets, Kotor's medieval walls, Roman Byzantine churches on Lake Ohrid's shore — wrapped in some of the continent's most dramatic mountains. The scenery changes by the hour, and the welcome never wears out.

Balkans Motorcycle Tour FAQs

Yes — our flagship Balkans motorcycle tour is The Great Balkan Odyssey: a fully guided 22-day, 4,000-mile ride from the UK through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia, led by an experienced guide who handles the routes, hotels and logistics.

The Balkans offer what the Alps did thirty years ago: empty roads, dramatic mountain scenery, and genuine adventure. A motorcycle tour of the Balkans combines high alpine passes, fjord-like bays, Ottoman-era old towns and some of the least-trafficked great roads in Europe — at a fraction of the cost of riding further west.

The Great Balkan Odyssey runs from £5,800 per person for two riders sharing a room (£7,050 solo in a private room, or bring your pillion for £3,850). That includes the return Eurotunnel crossing, the Adriatic ferry, all accommodation, daily breakfasts, welcome and farewell dinners plus two more hosted evenings. A £1,500 deposit secures your place, with the balance due 120 days before departure.

Yes — you ride your own bike on all our tours. The route runs almost entirely on smooth tarmac, so any road-focused bike handles it comfortably: adventure bikes, sport-tourers, nakeds and cruisers all ride with us. Rental bikes can be arranged on request if you'd rather not take your own.

Summer and early autumn are ideal. Our Balkans departure runs from 21st August to 11th September 2027, when the mountain passes are fully open, the Adriatic is at its warmest, and the worst of the summer tourist traffic has eased. Expect hot spells at low altitude and crisp mountain air up top.

Yes — and it's part of why the region is such a rewarding place to ride. Main roads are well maintained, traffic outside the cities is light, and the countries on our route are established, welcoming travel destinations. As with any touring, we plan the days to finish before dark and brief the group on local road customs as we go.

Absolutely — solo riders make up most of every Wild Roads group. The guided format means you've got a ready-made crew of 8–10 riders to share the miles with, group dinners every evening, and a lead guide who knows exactly where you are if anything goes sideways.

Genuinely brilliant. Expect smooth high mountain passes in Slovenia and Bosnia, the wild limestone cliffs of Montenegro's bay country, the serpentine descents into Kotor, the switchback Llogara Pass above the Albanian Riviera, and quiet valley roads through the Accursed Mountains. Surfaces are good and traffic is light.

UK riders need a valid driving licence (an International Driving Permit is recommended for Albania), your passport, and vehicle documents including Green Card insurance covering Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia. We walk the whole group through the paperwork in your tour pack well before departure.

The tour is designed for confident road riders — not racers. Days average 150–250 miles with proper coffee and lunch stops built in, mountain days are shorter in distance but richer in bends, and nobody is ever left riding alone unless they want to. It's a holiday on two wheels, not a rally.
