Motorcycle Tours Japan

The Chureito pagoda framed by Mount Fuji, legendary touge passes, cedar-lined valleys and the best post-ride food on the planet — motorcycle tours in Japan through a country built for riders.

14 Days · 2 Islands October 2027 Trailblazer Expedition From £5,600

Our motorcycle tours in Japan take you deep into a country made for two wheels: fourteen days across two islands, riding the smoothest mountain passes on earth through cedar forests, hot-spring valleys and post towns that haven't changed in centuries.

Japan rides on the left, the roads are immaculate, and the culture of the touge — the mountain pass — runs deep. A motorcycle tour of Japan with Wild Roads is a fully supported Trailblazer expedition: rental bikes sorted, ryokans booked, routes planned. You just ride, eat brilliantly and help discover the finished tour.

Why A Motorcycle Trip To Japan?

01

The Roads

Japan's mountain passes — the touge — are the smoothest, tightest, best-surfaced roads you'll ever ride. Threads like the Iroha-zaka's 48 hairpins and the Norikura Skyline climb through cedar forests to volcano rims, and once you're out of the cities traffic barely exists. It's a country that treats road building as a craft.

02

The Stays

You sleep like a local. We book traditional ryokans, mountain hotels and characterful townhouses — tatami floors, onsen baths, multi-course kaiseki dinners after a day in the saddle. Every night is part of the experience, not just a bed at the end of it.

03

The Food & Drink

Ramen counters in the launch city, roadside yakitori on mountain passes, sushi breakfasts, vending-machine coffee with a view. Japan is the best eating country on earth at every price point — and post-ride dinners on a motorcycle tour taste better than anywhere else.

04

The Culture & Scenery

Centuries-old post towns, shrines tucked into cedar valleys, castles above river junctions, Mount Fuji appearing over your shoulder on a clear morning. Japan layers history and scenery more densely than anywhere we ride — and autumn sets the whole country alight.

Japan Motorcycle Tour FAQs

Yes — our Japan ride is Hidden Japan: a 14-day, two-island motorcycle tour of Japan running in October 2027 as a Wild Roads Trailblazer expedition, led by Josh with rental bikes, routes, ryokans and logistics all handled for you.

Trailblazers are first-run scouting tours — you come along on the research expedition that creates the finished Wild Roads tour. Some roads will be incredible, some won't (yet). That's the point: you ride the Japan most visitors never meet, and your feedback directly shapes the tour that follows. Everything is still fully supported and led by Josh.

Hidden Japan runs from £5,600 per rider, with a £2,000 deposit securing your place on one of the two October 2027 departures. That covers 13 nights in hand-picked ryokans, mountain hotels and townhouses, daily breakfasts, rental bike logistics, and full support throughout. International flights are booked separately.

No need — this is one tour where your own bike stays home. Rental bikes are matched to the route and collected on arrival, so there's no shipping, no customs paperwork and no worries. Everything about the rental logistics is sorted by us before you land.

Your UK licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention — the Post Office issues these over the counter. We walk the whole group through the paperwork well before departure so there are no surprises at the rental desk.

Japan rides on the left — good news for UK riders, as everything feels natural within an hour of collecting the bike. Japanese drivers are courteous and disciplined, cities are well signed, and the mountain roads are a joy once you're out of town.

Autumn — and that's exactly when we ride. Both departures run in October 2027: the first chases early autumn colours as the route heads south, the second catches peak foliage in the Japanese Alps. Clear skies, cool mountain air and the countryside at its most beautiful.

Launching from Tokyo or Osaka — the final start city is being confirmed. Either makes a brilliant stage one: collect the bikes, shake off the flight, and dive straight into the neon and the best post-ride food on the planet. Registered riders are notified the moment the start city is locked.

Genuinely brilliant. The mountain passes (touge) are legendary — tight, smooth and beautifully surfaced — traffic outside the cities is light, and the country is stitched with scenic routes, onsen towns and roadside food stops. Add ryokan stays and the best food on the planet, and it's a bucket-list riding destination.

Absolutely — solo riders make up most Wild Roads groups. On an expedition you're part of a small crew of 8–10 riders discovering the route together, with group dinners every evening and a lead guide handling everything. It's adventure with a ready-made crew.
